A budget retailer Säästäri was the first box store chain in Finland. It was founded by Mr. Kai Mäkelä in 1976, and it has 36 stores at the most. The chain was sold to co-operative grocery Elanto in the 1980’s. The company was shut down in 1998.
The share of Säästäri was listed in the Helsinki Stock Exchange in the 1980’s.
