”National Bank” alias KOP, short for Kansallis-Osake-Pankki.
Established in 1889 by the fennomans as an alternative for Suomen Yhdyspankki (Union Bank of Finland). These banks competed for the control of the Finnish industry for over 100 years until 1995, when they merged and formed the Merita Bank Plc (1996). Later Merita merged with several Scandinavian banks into Nordea Bank Plc, which is still active.
The share of KOP was listed in the Helsinki Stock Exchange from 1912 to 1995.
Nature of business: commercial banking, investment banking, domestic and international banking.
The vignette of the certificate represents Finnish Maiden defending her country and the industrial development is arriving. Vignette stayed invariable the whole history of the bank, over 100 years.
